About the Department

The Laboratories in Mechanical Engineering are equipped with state of art facilities which provides the hands on experience related to industries.Our laboratory has excellent facilities enabling efficient learning in areas of Basic workshop, Manufacturing Technology, Strength of Materials, Thermal Engineering, Fluid Mechanics and Machinery, CAD, CAE, CAM,Dynamics, Metrology and Mechatronics Laboratories. All laboratories are equipped with advance machines and machineries which full fill the Anna university curriculum. The lab acts as a research ground for the young technocrats of our college by providing them with the latest hardware, software and machineries.

HOD Profile

Dr. N.Nithyanandan M.E., Ph.D.,

Professor and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering

Dr. N.Nithyanandan Professor and Head of the department of mechanical engineering he has 22 years teaching and 14 years research experience. He graduated from Bharath Institute of Science & Technology in Mechanical Engineering (1996), completed his Post Graduation in Energy Engineering & Management at Annamalai University (2004) and PhD degree from Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute University (2011). His areas of research include cold start emission control, optimization, combustion and energy. Around 20 papers have been published by him in various national and international journals. He is a member of SAE, ISTE. FIE professional bodies.

  • Engineering knowledge:
    Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem analysis:
    Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • Design/development of solutions:
    Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct investigations of complex problems:
    Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern tool usage:
    Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • The engineer and society:
    Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

Program Specific Outcomes

  • PSO-I :
    The ability to apply drafting practice, emphasizing mechanical engineering principles and systems, as well as fundamentals of descriptive geometry, machine design, mechanics, and CAD with technical depth. (Design Specific)
  • PSO II :
    The Competency to integrate the concepts, laws and principles of thermodynamics with IC engines, Steam turbines, Compressors and R&AC and to create a thermally balanced system.(Thermal Specific)
  • PSO III:
    The Knowledge about the processes such as metal casting, joining and forming, the usage of standard machine tools, CNC machines with an insight to plan the processes and apply them in the production line. (Production Specific)

Department Advisory Board

The role of the Department Advisory Board (DAB) is to provide input and guidance to the Department of Mechanical Engineering to achieve our mission of providing top-quality educational experiences for our students.The board has been integral in evaluating and strengthening our program to ensure we meet the needs of our students. The board meets twice per year.
