About the Department

The Department of Information Technology was established in the year 2008 . Our Mission is to provide conducive environment for technical learning and Equip the learners to have desire for higher learning and research in the domain of Information Technology. Apart from imparting ability to face the global challenges successfully.

In order to meet the present day advanced technological changes our department organizes Conference, Symposia, Seminars, Workshops, Guest Lectures, Industrial Visits, Career Guidance programme etc., thereby developing interpersonal and intrapersonal skills of students. The department is equipped with excellent laboratories. The department students achieve more than 10% of Anna University ranks every year.

Students are active participant in organizing Guest Lectures by eminent persons from Industry as it is the part of Professional Society activities. Students often visit Industries to gain practical knowledge on technical application of the technologies they learn as a part of their course. Competitions like Paper presentation, Quiz and Project presentation are conducted as part of professional society activity, at regular intervals. Annual Symposia is conducted for the benefits of other college students to show their talent. Students are motivated to participate in competitive events that are conducted by various Organizations and Educational Institutions. Students are also encouraged to publish their works as paper in various National/International Conferences and Journals.

Professor and Head of the Department of Information Technology

Dr. S.SumaChristal Mary M.E, Ph.D.,Professor and Head of the Department of Information Technology, has more than 16 years of teaching experience.She completed her B.Tech in Information Technology, M.E. in Computer Science Engineering and received her Doctorate Degree in the area of Network Security in the year 2015.She has published more than 40 research papers in International and National Journals, presented 36 papers in International and National conferences and authored 4 books.Also She has published 6 patentsHer research in the field of Wireless sensor Network, Artificial Intelligence, Network Security and IOT etc. She is a Life Member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and Computer Society of India (CSI) and Member of IEEE and IARA.She has received a Best Teacher award from Computer Society of India(CSI) and received Young Scientist award from Dr.Kalam Educational Trust , TribalUniversity, Best Teacher Award from IEAE. Involved as an organizing member in conducting various FDP,STTP,workshops, Technical Events in collaboration with CSI,AICTE.She is also the Editor and reviewer for Journal of Computer Science (JCS),Journal of NanoMaterials,International Journal of Computer Applications (IJCA), International Journal of Applied Engineering Research.

Program Outcomes

  • Engineering knowledge:
    Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem analysis:
    Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • Design/development of solutions:
    Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct investigations of complex problems:

The program educational objectives for the Information Technology program describe accomplishments that graduates are expected to attain within four years after graduation and the graduates will be able:

Program Specific Outcomes

  • PSO-I :
    Basics of Computer System: Ability to understand the principles and working of computer environment. Students can assess hardware and software systems.
  • PSO II :
    Implementation of algorithms: Ability to apply suitable methodologies and algorithms to solve computational task and real time applications using appropriate data structures.
  • PSO III:
    Foundation of Software development and Research: Possess professional skills and knowledge of software design process. Familiarity and practical competence in programming language and open source platforms are useful in creating new career paths and innovative ideas of research field.

The role of the Department Advisory Board (DAB) is to provide input and guidance to the Department of Information Technology to achieve our mission of providing top-quality educational experiences for our students.The board has been integral in evaluating and strengthening our program to ensure we meet the needs of our students.     Prag Robotics conducted Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning certification course for Panimalar Institute of Technology students at the Robolab 4.0. from the month of September 2019.   • ISTE Approved Workshop
    Prag Robotics conducted I.S.T.E Approved Two day’s workshop on Robotics (Hands on Training) for Panimalar Institute of Technology students at the Robolab 4.0. from the month of February 2020.     The Department of Information Technology has been set up “Cyber and Digital Forensics Lab” on 14.08.2018 with support of “COEDF and Valiant technology” to train professionals and students on cyber and digital forensicsand Moving into a new lab space or renovating existing conditions is a great opportunity to set up our working environment emphasizing all aspects.
